How is WPM calculated?

We measure net words per minute at the character level: (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. Dividing by five is the standard word length, and counting only correct characters means uncorrected mistakes lower your score. Raw WPM ignores errors; net WPM is the number that matters.

What is a good typing speed?

The average adult types around 40 WPM. 60–70 WPM is solid and comfortably above average, and 90+ WPM is fast. Accuracy counts as much as raw speed — a steady 70 WPM with few errors beats an erratic 100 WPM that needs constant correcting.

Is the typing test free?

Yes — completely free, with no account required. A free letustype account adds saved history and trend charts; Pro ($5/mo or $48/yr) adds an all-time weakness heatmap and weakness-targeted practice.

Do I need an account?

No. You can take the test right here, anonymously, as many times as you like. Create a free account only if you want to save your scores and watch your speed improve over time.

Why real passages instead of random words?

How is accuracy measured?

Accuracy is the share of keystrokes you got right, character by character, including any you corrected along the way. It updates live as you type so you can see the trade-off between speed and precision in real time.
