MacBook keyboard review.

I've typed on a MacBook Pro 16 for about four years, and it's by far the best laptop keyboard I've used. The keys have real tactile feedback, the feel is consistent across the board, and it looks great. It's so much better than the butterfly keys on the old Intel MacBook Pros that they barely feel related.

That butterfly era is worth remembering when you read old complaints about Mac keyboards. Apple used the low-travel butterfly mechanism from 2015 to 2019, and it was disliked enough that the scissor-switch Magic Keyboard returned on the 16-inch MacBook Pro in late 2019, with about 1 mm of travel. Every MacBook since uses that design, including the current Air: the new Air in our house types the same way the Pro does.

Against a desk keyboard, the honest comparison is travel. One millimetre is shallow next to a mechanical board or even an MX Keys, and there's no angle or feel adjustment. But as the keyboard you didn't choose and carry everywhere, it's excellent. You're probably reading this on one, so open the typing test and see what it does for your WPM.
